Pasteur Colloquium Seminar: "Dysbiosis of Gut Microbiome and Alzheimer' Disease and Therapeutic Implication " by Prof. Meiyu GENG

On Sep 14, 2020, Professor Meiyu GENG from the Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences gave seminar titled "Dysbiosis of Gut Microbiome and Alzheimer' Disease and Therapeutic Implication"the seminar was hosted by CMDH PI Guangxun Meng.

In the lecture, Professor Meiyu GENG first systematically introduced the pathological features of Alzheimer's Disease and the arduous process of drug development. Then she pointed out that the idea of treating Alzheimer's Disease (AD) with thinking only the brain may be too simplified for the understanding and treatment of such a complex disease involving multiple systems and long time. Meiyu GENG's team found significant changes in inflammatory cytokines, immune cells, and the composition and structure of intestinal flora in patients with AD, and these factors were closely related to each other. More importantly, GV-971, a new anti-AD drug developed by them, can not only directly intervene the pathological damage caused by beta amyloid deposition, but also improve the intestinal flora. Finally, she pointed out that the new idea of integrated research on AD and other complex diseases has important reference significance for the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of complex diseases.

At last, Professor Meiyu GENG answered the questions raised by the PIs and students in detail and communicated with them fully after the meeting. As finish, Director Hong TANG and Prof. Guangxun MENG presented Professor GENG with the Pasteur Medal as a tribute to outstanding talents.
